Vlad,
as I understand (which is somewhat minimally) market makers do exactly that, make markets. I read an article about MM's. Apparently, on huge days, only about 45% of the volume is actually investor generated. The rest is MM's trading between themselves or placing themselves between buyers and sellers. I also understand a lot of their trades don't get seen.
This being the case (if it is the case) isn't pretty hard to interpret a MM's intentions. Couldn't they just be making $ on the spreads like every other market maker? I ask because I have seen many people get falsly excited about a big house accumulating shares in hopes of an upgrade only to see nothing happen.

Just curious,
Colby
