Shane, the backplane high speed interconnect scheme in this article:

lsilogic.com
especially: lsilogic.com

LSI should be pushing this toward the high speed clustering market (I assume it can be made to do anything...ATM, fibre, gigabit ethernet...). Tandem has a similar sounding product they call Fabric, which I think is catching on. Interconnecting NT server nodes, when the number of CPUs is maxed out on a mobo, and you have to cluster to another one to get more power, sounds like a perfect app for the LSI backplane. NT servers are projected to grow from 2 billion in 1997 to 8 billion in 2001. (Go Intel). Big opportunity there for the server hardware and interconnect people. I hope that LSI, as basically an ASIC house, knows how to market this new toy.
