WBH, you forget that, if AMZN can't make the interest payments that begin in five years, then the note holders own the company. Since the chances aren't too bad that the company will survive that long (accruing interest doesn't require cash), either they will grow big enough to service the debt or they will be smaller and, after bankruptcy, debt free. Of course, in the latter case, the current equity holders will be gone.
