Bob -- sorry to disappoint you, but Sprint is going to use fiber optics for their BMAN backbone and DSL for smaller nodes, like homes and small businesses. The full details can be found at sprint.com . There are various types of DSL and the ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) will be the common variety seen by most users. DSL has been "blessed" by the phone companies, Microsoft, Cisco, Intel, Compaq, and the ITU (International Telecommunications Union, the organization that sets international standards). DSL has been developed over the last few years, and is now being actively deployed. A major difference between DSL and DWM is that everyone involved in DSL knows that the phone companies will have to change their equipment at the central offices, to carry the higher speeds over existing copper wiring, while IAS used to claim they could get high speeds over a POTS line with no modifications required.
