Hyundai Electronic reportedly to cut June microchip output by 25 pct
TOKYO (AFX-ASIA) - Hyundai Electronics Industries Co Ltd is to halt microchip production for a full week in June, cutting output for the month by 25 pct, the Nihon Keizai newspaper reported. Samsung Electronics and LG Semiconductor are expected to follow suit, cutting output by 20 pct, it reported. Earlier this week, Yonhap News Agency reported that Hyundai will cut output for four days, from June 4 until June 7. The move follows sustained falls in microchip prices due to over-production, the newspaper reported. At present, Hyundai Electronics is producing 18 mln 16M DRAM chips a month and 8 mln 64M DRAM chips, the newspaper reported. It is planning to cut output of both classes of chip by 25 pct this month. "In order to improve demand and supply in the memory market, other makers are also expected to follow suit in cutting output", the newspaper quoted a senior Hyundai Electronics official as saying. |
