Re: "Asia did it to us."
Thread, I was thinking this would be a great place to simply cut and paste the Asia excuses in one location. You don't even have to write anything. Most warnings by companies are pretty straight forward when it comes to the Asia excuse. I'm sure I'll miss a lot by myself. But if others would simply cut and paste any reference to Asia in a pre-warning, it would be very much appreciated. From these postings, I bet we can get a pretty good idea of how much damage Asia is going to do, or not do, to July's 2Q98 earnings announcements. Thanks, MikeM(From Florida)
I'll start with three I just picked off the news tonight. Third one's a big one:
>>The latest warning came late Wednesday from Northwest Airlines Corp. (NWAC - news) which said it expected second-quarter earnings to be below 1997 levels. It cited operational difficulties due to employee work actions and continued weakness in the Pacific economy.<<
>>Citing weakness from Asia and Ford trucks, Borg-Warner Automotive (BWA:NYSE) said it sees second-quarter earnings 20% to 25% below the year-ago $1.23 per share. The seven-analyst estimate calls for earnings this quarter of $1.31<<
>>PALO ALTO, Calif, June 3 (Reuters) - Global sales of computer chips will decrease 1.8 percent to $134.6 billion in 1998 largely because of Asia's serious economic troubles, the Semiconductor Industry Association said on Wednesday.<< |
