Are you serious? Haven't you heard of USB? That's expansion, baby. There's also a proprietary slot inside. In addition to that, it has the ability to accept processor upgrades, and news is that 400Mhz cards are already in the works. That's three ways to expand the system by my count.
Great. Another proprietary bus. I finally thought that Apple had come to it's senses by standardizing on the PCI bus. So just what am I going to plug into this proprietary slot, a Firewire card?
USB is not expansion, not yet. What can I go out and buy today that connects to USB or Firewire... a digital camera?
Also, which third party manufacturer is going to make an investment in YET ANOTHER apple proprietary bus? I don't think that anyone in the industry trusts apple to keep their word, or their standards. So we're looking a very few, expensive choices in add on cards. And it would have been so EASY for them to put in a PCI bus.
And no, this is not a troll. As a recent investor who is convinced of Apple's turnaround due to the rest of the product line and newly focused strategy, I'm just looking for someone to tell me why I'm wrong about the iMac.
And someone already has. I received an email noting that Apple already has all the bases covered with it's G3 and powerbook lines, and that the iMac is a visionary attempt to define and capture an entirely new type of market segment.
