By my calculation, the benchmark OSX fell 2.21% yesterday. (Of course, the real "dogs" such as EVI and VRC fell more than 4%.) By contrast, the S&P 500 fell only 0.9% and the Nasdaq Comp. fell only 1.1%. I think investors in a broad index fund should be looking at the OSX, thinking that they didn't do so badly.

I think we've earned the right to some gloom and doom. <g>

As for the spike in oil overnight, my guess is that it will have little effect on the sector. I suspect that the big fund investors will be waiting to see if there is any substance and staying power behind the move. And, while I'm not intimately familiar with how the oil business works, I don't suppose the E&P's will be meeting this week to increase their cap ex budgets.
