Unbelievable really. (I have heard horror stories about DIGI) Looks like this is predominantly for the ADSL capability of their DLC.

And fwiw, AT&T is still pushing the T1 angle:

<A> AT&T Deploys Larscom's Broadband Access Multiplexers to Introduce New High Speed Internet Access Service

Larscom's Orion 4000 Allows Customers to Increase Bandwidth

Capacity Without Large Capital Investments

Larscom Incorporated (NASDAQ:LARS) today announced that AT&T WorldNet's Managed Internet Service (MIS) group has chosen Larscom's Orion 4000 broadband access multiplexer for deployment in its network.

The carrier will install Larscom's Orion 4000 with inverse multiplexing modules on customers' premises to terminate separate T1 circuits into one high-speed logical channel. In addition, Orion 4000 IMUXes will reside at the carrier's points of presence (POP). AT&T can thus offer its customers high-speed Internet access from 3 Mbps to 12 Mbps via multiple T1 circuits. Larscom's Orion 4000 also balances traffic loads and provides automatic fallback and recovery should one or more T1 circuits fail.

Integrating Voice, Data, and Internet Traffic over One Line

The Orion 4000 gives AT&T WorldNet MIS customers greater bandwidth choices and, in addition, allows for cost effective deployment by integrating voice, data (including Frame Relay) and Internet traffic over one line. This is made possible by inserting additional Orion 4000 modules, such as T3 Mux, T3Clear and T-Mux modules, on the customer premises to facilitate additional classes of service and speeds. AT&T is also using Larscom's Orion 4000 with T3Clear modules in its IP backbone.

Providing Scalable T1 Bandwidth Where T3 is Unavailable or Too Expensive

"The Orion 4000 has strategic benefits for AT&T and its customers," said Paul Strudwick, VP Strategic Planning and Business Development at Larscom.

"For example, many companies have requirements for bandwidth greater than T1, but can't justify the costs, or don't need the extra bandwidth of a T3. By deploying an Orion 4000 at the customer site, AT&T can provide a flexible, scalable broadband solution to meet the customer's needs. Larscom products provide a tool for AT&T to keep customers' entry costs down and give AT&T an edge in today's competitive service provider environment."

Initial compatibility testing managed by AT&T's Developmental Relations Group was conducted at AT&T Lab's Holmdel test facility in New Jersey. Successful test completion indicated the Orion 4000 complied with interface specifications, and is compatible with Accunet T1.5, T45, fractional T45, international Accunet digital services, and the extended superframe (ESF) as well as the ANSI facility data link requirements.

AT&T WorldNet Managed Internet Service (MIS) gives companies a managed, dedicated connection to the Internet through AT&T's world-class IP backbone to support employee Internet access or to connect corporations with suppliers and customers through LANs, Intranets and electronic commerce Web sites.
