Agreed, there's the potential for a conflict of interest. AC is on the cutting edge of this--didn't they recently announce a deal with SAP that SAP was their preferred ERP vendor? I agree that AC (or any consultant) should inform prospects about potential conflicts of interest.

As you no doubt know there's a huge debate about how much seperation there should be between consultants that specify and recommend, and those that implement and maintain. Not dissimilar to the conflict in the investment community between the bankers and the analysts.

It bites, but as a practical matter there is no real remedy short of customers doing their own homework.
