WHAT ARE FRIENDS FOR?
A man on his deathbed summoned his lawyer and long time friend to make some confessions to him.
"Remember when the authorities investigated you for stealing your clients' escrow money and settlement checks? It's a miracle you weren't disbarred. Well, I want you to know I was the one who turned you in. It was because I didn't like the dishonest streak you acquired after becoming a lawyer; I thought that the shock would change you back."
"Don't worry about it," said the lawyer, "Take it easy, you're dying."
"And remember when you bribed that Supreme Court judge, and the US Attorney investigated you for the next five years, but you beat the rap on that one too? I want you to know it was I who called the feds for the same reason."
"And remember when your wife found out you were having an affair with the summer law student you hired, and she divorced you? Well, I was the one who tipped her off."
"Now there, there," soothed the lawyer, "bygones are bygones."
"Now that I got that load off my chest, I can die in peace knowing that
you forgive me."
"Forgive you?" exclaimed the lawyer, "Who do you think poisoned you?"
