The 2 and 8 billion are number of server boxes. These are like your desktop, except these boxes will have a MOBO with up to eight Intel Xeon (souped up Pentium II) CPU chips, memory, RAID storage, CD ROM, ZIP, tape...a full blown PC but a bunch more powerful. The servers can be standalone, or packaged with other servers (AKA nodes) in a 19" rack, tall fridge size. This is where LSI could come in. There has to be a high speed connection between the nodes. Otherwise, scalability, which UNIX and MVS excel in, sucks. The nodes look like a 19" plug in assembly, about 15 inches high. So, you can get three or four of them in a rack, requiring that high speed interconnect that, hopefully LSI has here. Anyone from LSI posting or lurking here to tell me if I am all wet or not (whether the new backplane is useful here?). If not, what applications does it have?
