Q1 margins were 34% versus 32% a year ago, and are improving as mfg overhead is wrung out. BKF stated they continued the dialogue with FDA in Q1 over progressing Unigold filing, but, "the caveat is it is a governmental agency and we find it difficult to predict when such approval might be forthcoming." There were no follow-up questions on the issue and he made only that scripted statement. They were pleased with the Malaysian win for Unigold as it was a competitive performance evaluation among six others, as I have previously posted. Pregnancy test sales were very strong in the US and Europe. Jonathan said, " 50% growth in EPS is probably achievable." It conflicts a bit with their previous forecast, but I assume they were leaving themselves a bit of room for positive surprise. BKF concluded the answer to one question which asked wnen qtr earnings would get to the level of .04-.06, which would interest Wall Street, by saying it would occur in 1999. When asked about the SLF stock and whether it has been pledged as collateral for loans, Jonathan replied, "... not at this moment."
