1) Your choice of words in "misc." section contradicts the supposed neutral position and raises my ire.
It should be, IMO, " migrant farm workers who work for entry level wages, comparatively few health benefits, and profit minded employers". That would be more neutral... less strident.
I worked as a farm worker one partial (1970)summer semester break right alongside the "braceros" near Merced, CA. In six weeks we worked for 4 different ranches. We picked peaches at .23/bucket in 1970. My best day was $19.00. Some of these(dead run) guys made $24.00+(short days because by 14:00 temp was already over 100F). And gasoline then cost $.29/gallon. I was not exploited. I made good money. I did not want nor did the different ranches have health insurance for transient workers. CA required and requires certain insurance for all workers.
People make choices... they live with the results of those choices. Few can be exploited unless they allow it to happen. You choice of words make migrants sound like victims, not people with alternatives.
2) This is a great SI board with lots of good talent, great education, and super insights regarding the market. There are other boards set up to banter over real and inane topics. This board has less "OT" than most and I am sure no one minds short OT items. I was quite surprised to see TT and Lisa go to such lengths with immigrants on this board. Remember, there are others who have to wade through this "OT" #(%$*&% to learn from the Kahunas who frequent here.
So If you want to discuss immigrants at length, legal and illegal, join into the coffee shop or another non-TECH STOCK OPTIONS board.
