Frank, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not that technical and still learning this industry. I own a piece of a company Applied Innovation AINN. A day or so after Sprint announced the "big news" re: the XDSL thing, AINN released the announcement announced that its AI 4800 Remote Access
Server, designed to relieve telephone voice network congestion and provide
advanced functionality for Internet Service Providers (ISPs), has completed
Bellcore testing and analysis of its SS7 signaling capability. go2net.newsalert.com

AINN has always said that they are way ahead of thier competition. FWIW

Today AINN released news that they have teamed up with Tekelec TKLC another leading SS7 technology provider who carries Lucent as one of their major customers.

Excerpt:

"SS7 is tailor-made for relieving data management issues such as network congestion
on the PSTN," commented Cory Grant, General Manager of Applied Innovation's
Access Products Group. "We have designed our products around this established
standard protocol, and are the first supplier to offer SS7 technology that has been
fully tested by Bellcore, two Regional Bell Operating Companies and several
independent laboratories."

Then I read on this thread where Lucent has been working with Sprint on this issue.

You seem to be looking for pieces to the puzzle from this end and I'm coming from the other end. The road seemed to lead me here.

Maybe this will be of some assistance to you, and me :) And if nothing else maybe you'll find a couple more good stocks out of this :)
