Surfer Mike, My apologies for the blatant invasion of your personal space. On this side of the 49th, it has become quite popular to use the politically correct term "challenged". I trust a derivative of this may be more appropriate in describing my dire telephonic abilities. I intend to dismantle a few phones over the weekend to peruse the chip labels. Hopefully, this will raise my TQ level closer to something of credibility.

On this 3G issued, there is one thing that I have yet to influentially hear. I guess the splashes in the fiord were not loud enough. Even The Tero Discussions have failed to state (or realized?) that it was Qualcomm that initiated the current round in the GSM/CDMA War. While everyone else was scrambling to adapt to the changing landscape (or designing/building cdma phones in the case of a few smart ones), they had the gall to conduct The Newbury Trials. I believe, prior to that moment in time, 3G was a lurking dream. There wasn't even a debate. This flagrant attack of GSM territory is why the Swedes (and all the other GSM folks) are up in arms. Although, they were party to the building of their own bed, I do feel they do have some right to be upset with the progression of the game. Gregg has it right, the trophy of the day will go to the one who manages to save everyone's face. Anyway, at this time, I feel it is muchos nb for myself to become less telephonically challenged, especially in the area of GSM/CDMA compatible phones. Like it or not, it's guna happen.

On the same vein, I have noticed that Omnipoint has been prolifically announcing GSM roaming agreements all over the world. Just another red herring? I don't know. But it sure smells like another major backdoor maneuver is in the offing.

In signing off, I would only say that North of the Fourty-Ninth, we are more civil and have higher aspirations. Instead of Building the Wireless World, we are Building the Wireless Universe. The only drawback is that our Universe includes the I-77th element and excludes G*. Oh well, you can't have everything.

Yours truly, nf

PS - In addition to being phonetically challenged, I am also grammatically, poetically and orthographically challenged. I only hope my "Wireless Universe" comments don't get me into trouble with the man down under. And oh yes, the new FON network is very long overdue. The Great Digital DNA Revolution has finally begun.
