Petz - Re: "Either Intel is vastly underutilizing their fabs, or their yield is way below what you say it is."

Intel's PROFITS were $1.25 BILLION last quarter.

That should tell you something about their yields - if you're smart enough to figure it out.

Re: " If less than two of them make SRAM's, that leaves 5 or more equivalent fabs for making Pentium II core die."

Clue Number 1 - look at a Motherboard - Intel's Socket 7 or Slot 1.

Clue Number 2 - Count the number of Intel Chips on the board.

Clue Number 3 - Socket 7/430 TX boards will have a Northbridge and SouthBridge chips (1 each) and a Pentium chip as well as a Flash Memory chip (we'll not count this one).

Clue Number 4 - A Pentium II/Slot 1 will have either a 440LX or 440 BX chip set - again a Northbridge and a Southbridge (1 each) as well as Flash Memory (again, we'll ignore this).

Clue Number 5 - Open up a Pentium II Cartridge - you will find in addition to the Pentium II chip a few SRAM chips (Non-Intel) and one Intel Tag Ram chip.

Clue Number 6 - A Pentium Pro board will most likely have an older Natoma (440 FX) or 450GX chip set (3 each) plus a southbridge chip.

Clue Number 7 - Add the above numbers and you will compute that Intel makes about 3 or more chips per motherboard, ONLY ONE OF WHICH IS THE CPU CHIP!

Clue Number 8 - Re-Do your math with your new-found information.
