It's not an article, it is a bi-weekly publication, used mostly by physicians. The Medical Letter dated 6/27/98 is titled THE CHOICE OF ANTIBACTERIAL DRUGS. It lists first choice antibiotics and alternatives. The drug of first choice means that this is the preferred medication in most cases, and should be tried first in most cases. Staphylococcus aureus has about a 30% overall resistant rate. More resistant strains are encountered in hospitals, some more than others. Most garden variety staph aureus is susceptible to PCN. In most hospital patients, susceptibility tests are performed. If they are PCN resistant, a cephalosporin or other abx would be used. If the majority of staph a infections, PCN G or PCN V is preferred. For initial therapy of severe staph aureus, PCN G, administered parenterally, is first choice.

Although this is not really related to Viagra, I think that it is important to point out blatant misinformation. It helps determine how much weight to given to certain information from certain posters, and it also helps educate the public to scientifically sound facts.

Further info on the above can be found in THE MEDICAL LETTER; VOL 40 (issue 1023); March 27, 1998
