[xpresslink d/siemens]

hi eric,

also think that if siemens were to show orctf it would be a rather big deal... have been watching this one for a little while and what follows is a slightly edited post from a while back... believe along the lines you're thinking.. regardless of supercom product presentation, think the relationship probably bears watching... (for either silicon or systems or both)... tho if its orctf modems @ supercom for siemens... :)... (and suppose you know of siemens/italtel/orctf adsl via amuse and siemen's investment in orctf via star)

---
just about a year ago siemens, italtel, and amtx announced that they would be working together on "next generation adsl technology" and that siemens would be marketing amtx modems and "adsl distribution systems"... since amtx was subsumed by txn have been wondering what happened with those relationships...

figure either (or some combination thereof):

1. wstl has taken over where amtx left off... (think we can kiss this one off)
2. siemens/italtel is going it on their own... (unlikely now... tho a "maybe" longer term)
3. siemens/italtel would be looking to their other relationships (coms/adtn) for expertise... (or maybe ti?).. or

4. siemens/italtel might be working with someone else as yet (kind-of) unnamed...

for some time there have been hints that something might be up with orctf/siemens/italtel... and then in december siemens and orctf announced integration of orctf vdsl into a"jointly developed broad-band product..."
link available on orctf website

that sounded promising and seemed again to hint efforts may be expanded beyond strictly vdsl...

with these thoughts in mind, recently revisited the siemen's website... and was rather (pleasantly) surprised to find that their xdsl access system, "xpresslink d" now seems to also go by the name "Fast Internet" (orctf's name for their dslam)..

"xpresslink d" is described as "the xDSL broadband access solution for all customers with existing copper drop"... and includes vdsl... and seems to be an onu..

(click on xdsl product: express link d)

fwiw... this is definitely a different product than what was featured last fall... had ruled out orctf involvement then because the upstream speed was listed as 640 K/bit/s (speed of amtx product).... this product has an upstream speed listed as 800 K/bit/s (orctf speed)...

features are described as supporting up to 96 subscribers/rack... recent literature on fujitsu speedport: had "up to 48 ... (with future upgrade to 96)" ... maybe sounds like those new cards (now available) mentioned in the cc with two modems per card (?)...
fnc.fujitsu.com

management interface (snmp) fits and there are also isdn interfaces/capabilities as well...

of course... there are probably other explanations besides siemens/orctf...

best wishes
