Excerpt:
As dynamic RAM (DRAM) prices crumble under the weight of global oversupply, Samsung Electronics is scaling back chip production in an effort to stabilize its memory product inventories.

In response to the glutted market, the company will begin closing its fabs in Kiheung, South Korea, and a back-end test and assembly facility in Onyang for an unspecified number of days each month, according to Avo Kanadjian, vice president of memory marketing at Samsung Semiconductor, in San Jose, Calif. The company did not indicate how many months this policy would be in effect.
