Sector, I think I made the point about "customer base" when I mentioned Livingston and ATM switching.

Concerning the other two items, Yurie owns a larger market share in ATM access concentrators (they might be the market leader, but I know for sure they generate a lot more revenue than the SA line), and ASND's GRF line in not even near the top.

You are correct that customer base is important (this is an understatement, its very crucial), but LU may feel that having "equal" capability products (yes, Livingston does offer equal functionality to MAX/MAX TNT), they can "outmarket" ASND.

You aren't being realistic.

On the contrary. I think those on the thread that simply feel that LU taking ASND (after the stock price rise of two more good quarters) is a given aren't looking at all the facts. They are just looking at those that make their case.

One other tidbit to consider.

Jeong Kim, Yurie's chairman and Chief Executive Officer, is now president of Lucent's Carrier Network division within the company's Data Networking Systems group.
