That is incorrect.. This is one of the long list of complaints about AOL's software. AOL often reports the "connect speed" incorrectly - 38400 is actually the speed between Your computer and Your modem - not the connect speed between your modem and AOL's modem. It is entirely possible you are connected at 14,400.

V.34 modem's fastest connect speed is 28,800 bits/sec. If you happen to be using a USR modem, you -might- be able to connect at 33,600, but 38400 is a dead giveaway that AOL's software is reporting the speed of your serial port, not the modem connection bit rate..
