SHARPER IMAGE said it reported a double digit sales increase for May driven by strong mail order sales and comparable store sales increase. For May, total company sales of $16.5 million were 19 percent higher than the prior year's $13.9 million. Total store sales rose 11 percent, to $11.3 million from $10.2 million for the prior year, with comparable stores sales increasing eight percent to $10.7 million from last year's $9.9 million. Catalog sales had another strong month increasing 41 percent to $5.2 million from last year's $3.7 million. (Reuters 07:45 AM ET 06/04/98)
