Hello Nempela
So if I read the Angolan article correctly, DeBeers is the company that gains the most (profits) from the $1.8 billion in UNITA mined diamonds smuggled out of Angola every year. Since DeBeers has been striped of many of its assets that existed prior to the civil war (Camafuca, et all) it certainly explains why it might not be all that enthusiastic about UNITA disarming and smuggling being curtailed. It would seem that they have a great deal to gain if UNITA remains active in the Angolan diamond fields or even attempts a counter revolution? Would DeBeers get its pipes back if UNITA were to achieve this goal? I wonder who might still be shipping those arms to UNITA and was it both G and the SASD who suggested that the attack on SUF personnel was a UNITA raid?
An SUF shareholder just called me an hour ago and passed along the following:
In the SASD's post this morning #1425 he closed with the following, "For myself,...I would be quite happy to see this M1 issue resolved and all can carry on with business as usual. "
This shareholder by the way I believe is a psychiatrist ,and he wondered if this SASD's statement might not have been in effect a Freudian slip? He/she seems to be saying, I wish this M-1 issue would be resolved so I can get back to my day job at.........? Where do you suppose the day job is?
I thought it was interesting and might answer one of the questions so many of you have been asking him.
While I would rather quote the following directly from KF, the other point the caller made was that he had spoken to KF who had indicated that the 98 development costs at Klipspringer would be $20 million as DJ suggests, and overall development to reach the 4 year 480,000 carrat target would be $50 million.
So with 4 year revenues of $9.5 + $19.95 + $34.2 + $45.6 = $106.8 it would seem that SUF could meet these costs in approx. 2.6 years and pay back any draw on a line of credit shortly into the fourth year (2001).
If I were a financier I would consider this a reasonable investment. Perhaps DJ who is with Cannacord, a broker active in financing issues on the Vancouver Stock Exchange, is speaking on behalf of a house who is annoyed that SUF is not floating paper with them again, or which is buying up paper while they advise their clients to "Hold"?
But then CC have an impeccable reputation.......
Lurkers might find the following analogous to SUF doing a deal with DeBeers, and by the way, for anyone that does not get it, Sam would be SUF.
******
Sam has been in the computer business for 25 years and is finally sick of the stress. He quits his job and buys 50 acres of land in Vermont as far from humanity as possible.
Sam sees the postman once a week and gets groceries once a month. Otherwise, it's total peace and quiet. After six months or so of almost total isolation, he's finishing dinner when someone knocks on his door. He opens it and there is a big, bearded Vermonter standing there.
"Name's Enoch... Your neighbor from four miles over the ridge. Having a party Saturday. Thought you'd like to come?"
Great," says Sam. "After six months of this, I'm ready to meet some local folks. Thank you."
As Enoch is leaving, he stops. "Gotta warn ya. There's gonna be some drinkin'."
"Not a problem. After 25 years in the computer business, I can drink with the best of 'em."
Again, as he starts to leave, Enoch stops. "More 'n likely gonna be some fightin' too."
Damn, Sam thinks. Tough crowd. "Well, I get along with people. I'll be there. Thanks again."
Once again Enoch turns from the door. "I've seen some wild sex at these parties, too."
"Now, that's not a problem", says Sam. "Remember, I've been alone for six months! I'll definitely be there. By the way, what should I wear?"
Enoch stops and turns, "Whatever you want. Just gonna be the two of us."
Regards
P.S. Valuepro - when I made the querry about you working in a Chicago shoe store, it was my poor attempt at humour. You had posted that you were "Married with children" which is the name of a popular television comedy. |
