I think maybe what I can get from the discussion we are having, Mark, is that everyone needs to think for themselves, and not blindly follow any individual, church, or belief system. Meir Kahane had many followers, as does the more violent and racist part of the Christian right in America. But everyone is really responsible for their own behavior.
It certainly makes belonging to a religious group an important decision, in that you would need to choose carefully to make sure it really represented your core beliefs. It also makes people who study widely, and accept a little from any belief systems which make sense to them, seem very responsible and ethical in their approach. Of course, around here a common view seems to be that Satan has gotten to these people! |
