Robert, this may not be completely accurate, but Henry may be referring to making very small changes to a compound, and thus keeping the same physiological activity, but then calling it your own and sell it for similar activity to the original compound(did that make sense?). For a rough idea, think of the umpteen ACE inhibitors on the market. Many companies own one, sell one, but they all work in the same way and are similar(with small changes).
