Novell...what's wrong with this picture? Kinda like the Simpson trial, if ya talk about it for long enough, the facts get muddled.
The uncomprehendable facts are that:
1) Novell (again, a perceived dying company) canned their CEO with no replacement and announced no prospects in the bull pen. They has been no follow-up of any kind, or even mention that they are still even actively looking. The CEO issue was not addressed in the lousy response I got from Peter Troop to my letter. Even Bay Networks has got a new CEO in place. What were they expecting to happen with this announcement? What was the urgency to move Frankenburg out? 2) Obvious suppression of significant news. I still have not seen any acknowledgement from Novell regarding their alliance/support with Oracle (post 5004 upthread), or IBM. The news releases from those companies sounded quite upbeat. They didn't even mention these in the couple of recent NDS announcements or Comdex that I know of. 3) They have been as quiet as possible since September. The advertising efforts have been weak at best, and they don't seem to care about stock holders...at least the small ones.
Again, IMO, these issues defy incompetence, and they're only purpose seems to be to bring the stock price down. We all know they have the technology, products and customer base, but, the above listed facts clearly defeat any logic that they intend to continue as a stand-alond company.
Has anyone seen them at Comdex? Did they remember to hang up their sign? Of course there is still one day to go, but, the exposure and news from Novell has been disappointing. You would have thought at a minimum they would have been pushing the news of strong support from SUN, IBM, ORCL, and anyone else they could. As someone upthread commented, the bigwigs should've been there convincing the world that they have come back alive!
Somethings gotta happen. Can't shareholders sue on the basis of incredible incompetence otherwise? Seems like Novell has a responsibility to me, and I DON'T SEE IT!!
The reporting date of 11/26 makes me nervous also. If there was any good news to report, in support of the stock price, I would have expected some kind of pre-earnings news. Again as someone else pointed out, they chose one of the slowest trading days of the year.
What's wrong with this picture??
