BEA Systems will offer $150 million worth of bonds in the coming, a large
investor in the middleware company told CBS MarketWatch.com.
Goldman Sachs, BancAmerica Robertson Stephens, BT Alex. Brown --
which also brought the company public and handled a follow-on deal last
year -- are working the debt offering, the source added. A company
spokeswoman declined to comment on the rumor, but said company
(BEAS) executives were meeting on Friday with investors. The meeting
was the reason behind the 9.5 percent gain in BEA shares, which were
about three times more active than usual on Friday. The stock closed up 1
15/16 at 22 3/8.

"It's not uncommon for a company with a good
story to tell to generate pretty good interest when
they meet a new audience," the source said. Last
year's offerings raised more than $130 million for
the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company, which
makes software that allows different kinds of
software "talk" to one another. Two weeks ago,
the company bought TOP END for an undisclosed
amount from NCR Corp. (NCR). At the time,
BEA noted that although the company "has the
cash required to complete the TOP END
acquisition, it intends to pursue additional financing
through the capital markets."
