More case requirements...assembly issues.

The IBM server cases have side panel removal. I can leave all cables and wires plugged into the back while I open the case to add and remove components. This is a major advantage over my IBM Aptiva case, I have to disconnect and reconnect everything every time I go into the case.

My Compaq case is side panel removal. It is not as good as the IBM case. In order to access expansion cards one has to remove a drawer. This requires disconnecting and reconnecting cables in the back. A real drag.

Any comments on cases that allow fast entry and do not require disconnecting cables on the back would be appreciated. On these issues I am willing to spend $ for convenience.

I also anticipate internal cabling problems. I do not know how to plan for this. For example in the IBM servers the power cable cords for the drives is not long enough to reach all drives. They very conveniently provide extension capability with an additional cord. They did not plan very well for someone who wants to fill up ALL of the drive bays. I had to remove additional extension capability from another machine to reach all of the drives.

I have similar problems with the internal SCSI cables. It seems they are fine if you do not want to use all of the connectors. Trying to stretch cables to ALL drives with provided cabling requires a little tweaking.

Large cases may be a problem regarding cable lengths.

The IBM server cases seem to be more well thought out than many of my other cases. I use them as an example of problems even in good systems.
