Bill, I know of a mineral prospect in Australia which contains PGEs, gold and tellurium. Various tellurium minerals have been identified, including moncheite (Pt-Te). The exploration company did a lot of work , particularly assays, because the orebody was large 30+million tonnes. As it turned out it was sub-economic. My point is the the tech guys in the company were some of the best in the world, and they had no troubles at all getting consistent assays. The company used more than one method, and they checked by neutron activation analysis. At the time rhodium was selling for several thousand dollars an ounce and the ore contained significant rhodium. The company spent a lot of time determining the grade of the ore (because it was marginally economic) and never reported any difficulties or suspicions that anything was amiss.
