Militants blow up another bridge in India's Assam 03:33 a.m. Jun 05, 1998 Eastern GUWAHATI, India, June 5 (Reuters) - Separatist tribal guerrillas blew up another vital bridge in the north-eastern Indian state of Assam on Friday, police said.
Police said Bodo militants used improvised explosive devices to blow up the bridge on the national highway in the Dhubri district, about 290 km (173 miles) west of the state's capital.
No one was hurt. Security and civil officials have rushed to the site in order to detour traffic and start repair work, they added.
On Tuesday, Bodo militants blew up three vital bridges on the main national highway of tea-and-oil-rich Assam state, disrupting road and rail links with mainland India.
But skeletal train services between the mountainous region and rest of the country were restored on Thursday. Security was tightened on rail tracks and important highway bridges to prevent further attacks
India's northeast, made up of seven states and surrounded by Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and China, is home to more than 200 ethnic groups, some of which demand more political autonomy or secession.
