Diamond...shorts cause a stock to go down by shorting the stock themselves, and getting longs to sell their shares to add to the selling pressure. If they can get it down far enough, they can generate margin calls which in turn adds to the selling pressure. There's nothing wrong imho with shorting a stock, but I do it when I believe the fundamentals and news justifies it...I don't make up stuff to try and scare people into selling which is widely reflected on these kind of threads. Example? Yesterday the statement that Fred Frank and Lehman had quit CCSI...ridiculous, but if they can just cause that little doubt when the stock is down, they just may be able to shake out another long. That's why it's vital that you do your DD, so you recognize crap when you see it. If you don't, you'll push that SELL button and make a short's day.
