<<Greg, the size of the ligand is what is so remarkable. LGND can mimic a polypeptide of 10-20K with a small molecule of 1/2K. The results is very unexpected, which is why it is so exciting. Moreover, they have been able to achieve EXTREME specificity. The small (500 dalton) molecule can distinguish between the mouse and human G-CSF receptor.>> WOW!! Now I understand. I really was having trouble getting up to speed on this whole small molecule idea. Thanks for the clarification. I will assume that with a small amount of modification(that can be done cheaply)the different ligands might be able to achieve a vast array of biological responses. Might this include MS tx such as that found with interferon Beta-1b all the way to the phagocyte activating effects found with interferon gamma-1b? Thanks again, Greg
