The bit about pure-play foundries struck me as well. Only last year, I remember reports from the annual shareholders meeting about Cirrus touting its time advantage in 0.25 micron technology from JVs and how Taiwan foundries would be having trouble with new technology. This turns out to have been complete bullshit, forcing a 180 degree turn to Hackworth's current viewpoint.

I am also grateful to Calvin for posting his insights, which give me confidence that Cirrus core business (such as its mass storage business) is not rotting away. Calvin, did you see the WDC/IBM announcement a few weeks ago?
