Hi Moonray - Just got back from the week long ATM trade show here in San Jose. I liked what I saw at the 3COM booth but I still did not get a good answer from them regarding 3COM's business plan for developing their cable modem technology.

After some research I see that Motorola, Bay Networks, Toshiba and Next Level Systems have developed cable modems that will work on an Earthnet or 10baset Ethernet WAN.

Intel and CSCO are also working on a design that utilizes the USB standard but it is not clear to this investor if they plan to utilize an ATM backbone to achieve the large data speeds.

@HOME has developed a Network Architecture (http://www.home.com/corp/network.html). "...The primary components of @Home's network infrastructure include the ATM backbone, Regional Data Centers (RDCs), Local Caching Servers, Cable Modems and the Network Operations Center..."

Based on your review of the new 3COM, what type of business plan have you seen that will allow 3COM to participate in this emerging technology?

I was told that 3COM had done some early R&D work with TCI but I was not clear if it resulted in any product.

EKS

P.S. This is what I found on the 3COM site 3com.com. It provides a good overview of their technology. Perhaps you can add some additional perspective too.
