I don't think that the existence of the article is much of an issue. The area is very hot, and LGND has already made one or two presentations (at Lake Tahoe and I think at Keystone) back in January and February. I have already posted the upcoming abstract (it's linked to home.att.net ) and it is exactly as expected.

Since the "cat is out of the bag", the discovers want to publish so they get credit, and LGND wants to file patents so they are protected from all of the me toos who will undoubtedly hop on the band wagon.

The article was supposed to have been submitted back in January (see links to the above page) to Science, and Science is pretty quick on getting manuscripts published. A publication in the next few weeks is about right and sometimes articles that are this novel and important get "fast tracked" so they come out quickly (the journal also wants the credit for publishing the article, which will be heavily cited by future manuscripts and Citation Index keeps tabs on such things).

The rumor that I heard was that the paper had been accepted, and it would be published in a week or two. Maybe it will be several weeks, but I don't think that the existence of the paper is much of an issue.
