Hi Dwight - Regarding "token v. significant" insider stock purchases:
I'm curious if there is an accepted way to clearly identify one from the other. Should the purchase be a minimum percentage of salary, in the case of an employee, or a percentage of net worth, in the case of a board member? Would "token v. significant" be viewed differently by individual and institutional investors? Is there a standard by which all can agree?

If both classes of investors, individual and institutional, agree that the "significant" threshold has been met then some might consider that the sole purpose of the purchase was to manipulate the stock price? Under what conditions would the purchase be looked at closely by the SEC? Maybe the SEC is only concerned with insider sales and not purchases. What do you think?

I would be impressed with Dr. Schmidt's belief in the success of Novell if he would just take all of his salary for this year and purchase Novell stock. He would still have his bonus of a few hundred thousand dollars to live on if he met the specified goals.

Regards,

Elmo
