You forgot about Alpha.

Samsung will be the main producer and the delay gives them another 6 months to compete with Merced. They already have a big head start and U.S. taxpayer money, which could push them over the top and make it successful. Merced won't be any easier than the iAPX432 or any other processor with a new architecture to establish.

Increased vigilance and paranoia is in order.
