To All, Random Notes:

1. ABC aired a new segment this morning with Jim Cramer ("I have beaten the Wall Street experts every year of my life. I've made rich people richer, now I want to help you." <G>). His first guest was Ted Waite and See of Gateway. "The only thing wrong with the pc market is that some folks have the jitters about the stocks for some reason." It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that most boxmakers are losing money, and even Gateway has missed 3 out of the last 4 quarters? Nah, just must be the caffeine. <G>

Folks, if this ain't a sign that the end is near, when a self-promoting leprechaun can host a touty CEO on a network (O.K., ABC isn't much of a network, but it isn't CNBC or WB or UPN, either) morning nes show, with nobody to argue the facts of their statements, then I don't know what is.

2. The High Tech Strategies is great this month. I thought it was weak last month, so I didn't comment on it. This month, Fred rips the face off the notion that chip production is slowing and the turn is near. DRAM capacity went up 90% in 1997 as opposed to 49% in 1993. 1998 looks like a bigger jump on an Mbit basis, as 64 Mbit becomes the standard and 128 and 256 Mbit arrive on the market.

Fred also says that MU had 50 million DRAMs unsold as of the end of May, which will make that inventory # look pretty grotesque.

3. Sad and happy. I was sorry Real Quiet didn't win the Triple Crown. I was happy that Houston-owned Victory Gallop did. I was also happy that Houston-bred Thomas Jo was third. I believe he is named after a World Champion poker player from Houston named Tommy Jo, though I am not certain. I didn't bet this time. An unexpected visit from relatives kept me from the simulcast windows.

Good luck,

MB
