<<In exchange, Microsoft, of Redmond, Wash., is expected to further embrace Alpha as an NT platform. For example, Microsoft is including Digital's FX32 translation software into the NT 5.0 kernel.>>

Most database and server software is still written for Intel/Windows NT not Alpha/NT. Having the FX translation software included in WIndows NT won't change that fact. The advantage of Alpha is diminished with FX translation.

Besides with the purchase of profusion, INTC will release a standard for 8, 16 and 32 SMP systems. I think that is where enterprise IT managers will turn to for power hungry applications.
