Re: <<DEC will be . . difficult for CPQ . . >>
Sorry, can't agree with you. UB was a piddling little company with a technology that didn't work too well. In hindsight, NN bought a promise that did not work out.
DEC, on the other hand, is a long-established company that carries a strong image with its customers. It has also a trove of technology items in its bag, that has not been fully exploited, including the Alpha chip (fastest on the market and the only 64-bit for the next couple of years), and Alta-Vista. The combined company will truly be one capable of providing enterprise level solutions. Longer run, CPQ should turn out to be a great investment, capable of qualifying for a core position in one's portfolio. (I'm concerned about the short term, however, and am looking for a lower entry point.)
Meanwhile, my interest in NN is as a turnaround -- transition from old products to new and fast growing (a la PMCS), spurred by the addition of a new president. Any flaws in this posture?
