Is McData in the running? I guess they are. But, consider the following. McData's 16 port switch ES2500 is, in their own words, a startup switch, can scale up to a maximum of 3 switches(3x16-3=45 ports, this information is from their tech spec on their website). They recommend that you go to their ED5000 if you need more than 16 ports. ED5000 is a 32 ports FC director. The tech spec on their website does not say anything about being able to have multiple directors. Do you think they would omit such an important specification? Large enterprise computer centers require more than 32 port or 45 ports which is what McData can offer IMHO. Even Brocade's Silkworm can scale up to 32 switches theoretically. Scalability is a main key and Ancor has it. That is one of the main reasons I think Ancor will suceed. Will they win IBM? I have no idea. All I know is if IBM chooses McData based on they are offering, IBM is limiting themselves big time. Plus, McData's new products are not available until the third quarter 1998. Don't you think potential OEMs should already have FC products being evaluated for 6-9 months already. They are closed to making decisions, not waiting for inferior products. Everyone should evaluate the situatiion and form their own opinion. I am biased because I have a substantial Ancor postion.
