As an ex-Oracle, I knows a little bit.

Oralce Application just finished its transition from very old front end(Form 2.3) to a GUI(Form 4.5) version, called 10SC. I assume most of the developers were tied on this. Because of this, the market has a waiting period for last Quarter or two.

Oracle Financial seems very solid, even New York Stock Exchange uses this application.

Comparing to SAP, Oracle Manufacturing is not as mature and powerful. Oracle Manufacturing is good enough at distribute industry(has customers like SUN, Sequent, Seagate, SGI, US Robostic, etc). But it is weak at process industry like Chemical. With the recent purchase of Datalogics and on going 100M project with Kellogg, I hope it will catch up.

Recently, Oracle Manufacturing began target centain industries, like Automobile. It has a long list of big auto parts supplies as its customer like Dana, Cummins, and have a good chance of total panetrating this sector. I feel very positive about this move.

After all, the growth percentage of Oracle Application is about 80%-100%. SAP is about 20%-30% and steady decline.

Hope this help.
