I'm not a Telco engineer but here what it looks like to me.

CIENA's MultiWave Metro will be deployed as a series of optical add/drop multiplexer nodes connected by a two fiber ring. It provides up to 24 duplex channels over a single fiber pair, enabling up to 120 Gb/s of traffic.

GigaMux now features an Add/Drop Multiplexer (ADM) using a passive photonic module which enables Metro network operators to deliver bandwidth on short notice to customers located along a fiber run. Osicom has also announced that GigaMux's capacity has doubled to support 32 channels for a total system throughput of 80Gb/s.

The MultiWave Metro supports various network topologies, protocols and protection arrangements all on the same fiber pair and in the same node.

Osicom's ADM approach also helps protect the investments of a network operator's existing SONET deployed network. It achieves this by enabling such networks to add SONET rings to existing fiber routes without adding fiber pairs and accommodates modular network expansion by adding one ring at a time.

GigaMux's ADM capability supports inter-ring traffic, or trans-muxing, where data from a node in one ring needs to be routed to a node in a second ring.
