The only competitor Oracle has for DB today is IBM.

I couldn't agree more about waiting on Oracle 8. It is buggy, the administration tools are undergoing radical change and the middleware/security pieces have changed enough that it doesn't just snap into place over SQL*Net 2.3. My clients are waiting until 8.1 at least. There isn't anything they needed in 8 and 7.3 is stable. Most companies are working on Y2K instead. Not only are they holding off on Oracle 8, but also Windows 98, NT 5.0 -- all major new releases in lieu of completed Y2K certification on all existing components.

Syborg, if you persist in advertising for Sybase on this thread, I'll persist in posting about SYBS everywhere I post. Its an easy target. By the way, of course Oracle loses sales to Sybase. Sybase has good salespeople too. Wonder how much longer they'll stay... I saw the exodus TO Sybase in the glory days. Salespeople follow the money and the money follows the salespeople.

Fly low, sell high...
