Ah Ha! A use already for the glossary! From: minerals.net Bituminous - Consisting of hydrocarbons (such as coal) and materials formed from them. From: wvcoal.com Recoverable Reserves -- The amount of coal that can be recovered from the Demonstrated Reserve Base. There are about 285 billion tons of recoverable reserves in the U.S., enough to last nearly 250 years at current consumption levels. They are two different things. I think the assumption is that the "recoverable" coal is by definition "bituminous", and the ICVI "bituminous" coal is largely "recoverable." What is "largely"? To the extent that it isn't 100%, your comments would be correct. Anyone know a normal recovery rate? Mark N.
