Intel has multiple CPU lines. Alpha will not displace the x86 line. Alpha has far greater share than Merced, since it's vaporware and is continually being pushed out further into the future. The longer it gets pushed out, the less likely it is to replace Alpha as the high performance alternative to the x86 line for NT workstations.
