This should be achievable, as when one closes out a long position one can reverse and now view the same stock is as a potential short. My comment had more to do with how I perceive the neural net working ... the net looks for potential reversals in trends. Thus in an oversold market, I'd expect the filters to produce long candidates ... and in a very overbought market, the filters should yield short candiates.

For instance on some other threads, we were identifying the trend reversals for DELL and AOL. Don't recall the neural net being interested in either.
