Short some, drive the price down. Short some more, getting even more shares per dollar 'cuz the price is lower ... thus driving the price down. Then short some more again, 'cuz... Well, you get the picture. It is progressive deterioration. I'm not smart enough to figure out whether that's what is happening here, but the patterns for some other stocks with floorless convertibles can get pretty ugly.
