Interactive Digital Video. If you decode MPEG-2 with your 400Mhz CPU, your CPU is basically consumed. It can't do anything else, and an expert could point out a few flaws in the video. But the video looks great, a consumer would love it. But don't click your mouse, not enough headroom to run anything else. Like accessing the web in a window. Your video picture will start jerking/freezing.
The real market for removeable storeage in the PCs is recordable digital video. To record video in, real time, at MPEG-2 quality, you will need hardware for the forseeable future. Weddings(And everyother event that people like to have pictures of) will be filmed and recorded. Do you want to save a buck and have the picture jump?
When I bought C-Cube, it didn't have anything to do with the PC market, M-JPEG was only a small part of sales. Now DVD is 3% of sales. It still isn't a PC supplier company.............................................
